FETCH Parent Education and Counseling Program

Our parent program provides parenting education and counseling to 25-60 parents each semester. The professional staff consists of five volunteer community professionals, assisted by four graduate student counselors in training.

In each 12-week session, parents learn how to: organize the family as a participatory-democracy, distribute family work and resources, elicit the cooperation of all family members, control their emotions, accurately interpret children's actions, effectively respond to misbehavior, encourage family members and communicate respectfully and effectively. Parents learn how to take their new learning back to their community by forming “parent study and support groups.” Fridays, 5:30-8:00 p.m.; UH Art Auditorium.
